Manchester City morning news: Toure hits back at critics, Roma to poach defender?

A round up of news stories this morning about Manchester City.

Yaya Toure has defended himself after his first goal of the season against Aston Villa.

The midfielder has been criticised for not matching his goalscoring start to recent seasons.

“Sometimes people are forgetting I am a midfielder. My job is not to score all the goals. My job is to try to keep the team playing well, give the good pass,” said Toure.

Toure has been backed by teammate Pablo Zabaleta who suggests he can get back to his very best form for the club.

“I think last season he was fantastic. He scored 20 goals and that for a midfielder is just incredible. I would like to see Yaya scoring more goals, 20 if possible. We need him back to his best form in terms of passing, even free-kicks,” said the Argentine.

Serie A side Roma are being linked with a move for Manchester City centre-back Matija Nastasic.

The Serbian was linked with a move to Arsenal during the summer transfer window, as his first team chance at the Etihad have been limited.

The Daily Star claims Roma ate ready to offer the £12 million man a way out of the Premier League.
