Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor says that his side were sharp on the counter attack against Southampton.
Adebayor was in the Tottenham team which picked up a 1-0 win against the Saints at the weekend and he identified the speed of their counter-attacking as one of the major positives from the match.
"We played well, we were sharp on the counter-attack and we took our chance via Christian Eriksen so I’m very happy,” Adebayor said to the club's official site.
“We concentrated on our game defensively as well. We are trying to correct our past mistakes and today we looked solid and played some good football so a 1-0 win and three points – I will take that!”
Mauricio Pochettino has tried to improve Spurs in this area since taking over, and the display will have pleased him.
The result will have, too, as Tottenham have been off-form for a considerable amount of time.
Spurs went the whole of September winless, but they have kicked off this month in fine style and they will now be looking to build on their performance.
The side are currently in sixth position in the Premier League table, despite a start which has been largely underwhelming, and they will be hoping that this win will kick-start their performances in the future.
After the international break, Spurs face off against Manchester City, in what will be a big test of their top-four credentials, and Adebayor believes that it will be one of the most important games of the season.
He said: "Some players are now going away to play international matches and then we have one of the biggest games of the season at Manchester City so we’re looking forward to that."
