Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has said that Adam Lallana can become a big player for the club this season after the £25 million signing from Southampton opened his account for the Reds at the weekend in a 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion.
Lallana missed a chunk of pre-season and the first three games of the campaign through a knee injury which he picked up on the tour of the United States, and has been trying to find his feet in a Liverpool shirt ever since.
But after an impressive Merseyside derby display against Everton, he backed that performance up with a good display against West Brom this weekend, and Henderson - who got the Reds' winner - is backing the 26-year-old to be a success for the club this season.
He told the Liverpool Echo: “Adam did well with a bit of skill coming inside, I just showed myself for the bounce pass and it was a great finish.
“Adam has been brilliant for a number of weeks now. He is getting his fitness back from that long injury spell he had out.
“He is looking sharp. It was a great finish for the goal and I thought he was brilliant all day.
“He will be a big player for us this season so hopefully he will keep doing that. He gets us on the front foot well. You can fizz it in to him and he will always take his touch forward, gets in behind their midfield and drives us on, which is very important.”
Out of the nine signings who have arrived at the club during the summer, Lallana is amongst the most impressive as he has settled so quickly - and seems to have won the fans' approval.
On Saturday, Lallana operated in a wider role when in the Merseyside derby he played in a more central position and the two displays so far show why Brendan Rodgers highlighted him as one of his top transfer targets in the summer. Both his talent and versatility have been on show, and everyone at the club will be hoping he kicks on this season with many more valuable contributions to the team.
It has been a pretty disappointing start to the season for Liverpool, but they are now only one point off the Champions League places in the table - whilst they still have an opportunity to qualify from their Champions League group and are still in the League Cup. This victory is something they will want to build on after the international break.
