Manchester-based duo Angel di Maria and David Silva shone at the weekend as their respective clubs picked up three points over tough opposition.
Argentine international wizard Di Maria was instrumental in the Red Devils’ 2-1 win over Everton on Sunday, scoring the opening goal and later providing an assist for Radamel Falcao’s winner.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher revelled in the City midfielder’s performance and even went as far as suggestingthat the diminutive Spaniard is up there with the Premier League’s greatest foreign imports.
But who really came out on top as the best player from Manchester at the weekend?
According to the head-to-head table provided by Opta Stats, both stars excelled in different categories but it appears the South American provided the bigger attacking threat.
Not only did United’s record signing find the net, but he also attempted six efforts on goal throughout the 90 minutes, whereas Silva took four shots before being substituted five minutes from time.
As a creative force, Di Maria put opponents Everton to the sword by notching up five key passes and recording four successful dribbles – outperforming Silva in both categories.
One area in which the City star prevailed, however, was his involvement by number of touches and passes played. The majority of Manuel Pellegrini’s side’s good work go through him, therefore it’s not surprising to see him dominate against a more direct and impacting Di Maria.
As shown by the number of ball recoveries, both players worked extremely hard for the team from a defensive perspective yet it is the former Real Madrid star who again comes out on top.
Both players should be extremely satisfied with their individual performances over the weekend, and it’s almost certain that this won’t be the last time the duo are scrapping over who becomes HITC’s Manchester Player of the Weekend.
