Chelsea morning news: Blues backed to win major silverware by Smith

Stamford Bridge Inside

A round up of news stories this morning about Chelsea.

Former Arsenal star Alan smith has backed Chelsea to win the Champions League.

The Blues were too good for a resurgent Arsenal side yesterday as they ran out 2-0 winners in the London derby at Stamford Bridge.

“Champions League winners? You wouldn't be at all surprised. The Premier League title is clearly well within reach,” said Smith.

Jose Mourinho has urged his team to stay grounded after the win.

The victory gives Chelsea a big gap over Arsenal at the top of the table as we head into the international break.

“The start of the season is good, but it's just seven matches and the beginning of October. If you tell me in February we are in this situation, I say great, but it's not February or March. It's the beginning of October, so (there is) a long way to go,” said the boss.

Cesc Fabregas has revealed that Arsene Wenger hasn’t contacted him since he joined Chelsea earlier in the summer.

Fabregas played well on his first Premier League start against Arsenal, the side he could have gone back to.

“No, he hasn’t spoken to me since I came back. And it was the kind of relationship I always would have liked to keep. But I’m sure once everything dies down a bit in the future we will talk,” said the Spaniard.
