Ambrosini: Torres absent against Chievo

Former AC Milan midfielder Massimo Ambrosini has criticised Fernando Torres for his performance against Chievo.

AC Milan beat Chievo 2-0 at San Siro, but ex-midfielder Massimo Ambrosini wasn't impressed with Chelsea loanee Fernando Torres.

Torres signed on a two-year loan deal from Chelsea during the summer transfer window and was greeted with near hysteria by the Milan fans.

So far the Spaniard has found the net once but he has been struggling with a slight ankle injury and hasn't had as much game time as he might have liked.

Pippo Inzaghi elected to deploy Torres alongside Jeremy Menez and Keisuke Honda in his attacking trident against minnows Chievo.

Sulley Muntari and Honda found the net as Milan kept their first clean sheet of the season to win 2-0, but despite giving an energetic performance there was no goal for Torres.

"I think the way the attack is set up all revolves around Torres. If he and Menez are in then it is tough to play Stephan El Shaarawy," Ambrosini told Sky Sport Italia.

"Against Chievo, Torres didn't play well. He made his presence felt little and his mentality and body language every now and again seem a little absent.

"He wasn't very involved and he didn't seem to have that ruthlessness and desire necessary in a game like Chievo home."
