4 chances created, 87% pass success: Liverpool midfielder excels v West Brom

Jordan Henderson has become an integral asset to Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool, and he continued to prove his worth in the club's 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Jordan Henderson By The NumbersHenderson played a decisive role in this victory - assisting Adam Lallana for his opener and scoring the winner, either side of Saido Berahino’s strike from 12 yards for the visitors, following a somewhat contentious penalty decision.

"He's the one player in the country that can really dominate a game without the ball due to his running capacity", his manager noted at full-time.

The extent of his contribution off the ball must be emphasized. His phenomenal work-rate is integral to his game, and he has become a key player at Anfield as a consequence.

The 24-year-old is the perfect player for Rodgers’s brand of high-tempo, pressing football. The Northern Irishman puts huge emphasis on defending from the front foot and Henderson's attributes make him an ideal selection in this system. The Englishman won three tackles and completed two interceptions against the Baggies.

Henderson is a top quality passer of the ball, and this precision is matched by his ability to create chances for his Liverpool team-mates. Having attempted 52 passes on Saturday, he recorded a final success rate of 88%. He also created four chances in the final third - second to only Steven Gerrard, with five.

One glaring omission from Henderson’s game as one of the league’s top central midfielders is his ability to find the back of the net. Nonetheless, he stepped up in this match, scoring the winning goal for his side in the second period. He registered just one attempt at goal throughout 90 minutes, yet he took this chance with aplomb.

Henderson’s remarkable development under Rodgers at Liverpool has made him not only one of the key players in the Reds' squad, but also a player with the potential to become captain for both club and country. If he can add regular goals to his name, he will become renowned as one of the best 'complete' midfielders in the English top flight.
