Tottenham Hotspur striker Roberto Soldado has sent a congratulatory message to his former Real Madrid teammate Alvaro Arbeloa.
Arbeloa has played in 200 games for the Spanish giants and his achievement has been recognised by Soldado, who, like Arbeloa, developed at Madrid’s youth academy.
The Spain international striker posted the following photo on Instagram along with the message: ‘Congrats to my friend @17arbeloa, career full of success and still lots to come’.
Enhorabuena a mi amigo @17arbeloa ,carrera llena de éxitos,y los que te quedan / Congrats to my friend @17arbeloa, career full of success and still lots to come.
After finding chances hard to come by in the first team, Arbeloa left Madrid in 2005 and joined Deportivo La Coruna. After six impressive months, he was snapped up by Premier League club Liverpool.
It was at the Merseyside outfit that Arbeloa gained worldwide fame and established himself as one of the best full-backs in Europe. Madrid came back for the former Spain international and signed him from the Reds in the summer of 2009.
Since then, the 31-year-old has cemented his place as a key member of the Madrid first team, and has won the Champions League, La Liga and the Copa del Rey (twice).
Like Arbeloa, Soldado also developed at Madrid’s youth academy but failed to make the breakthrough in the first team. The 29-year-old joined Getafe and then Valencia, before moving to Tottenham in the summer of 2013.
