Manchester City faced a serious challenge yesterday from Aston Villa at Villa Park. The champions pressed throughout the game and in the end they won the fixture 2-0 thanks to goals from both Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero in the final ten minutes.
Here are some of the pictures that tell the story of the game...
David Silva was the star of the show. The tricky Spaniard was in top form, showing off his full range of technical mastery throughout the game.
He was upset when withdrawn in the 85th minute for Jesus Navas, but pundits have been waxing lyrical about his performance ever since.
City pressed and pressed throughout the game but found Brad Guzan in top form. The American is one of the more under-rated stoppers in the Premier League but he was solid throughout.
There was also good news for Villa when Christian Benteke entered the fray. The Belgian has been out for six months with an Achilles tendon rupture and after Gabriel Agbonlahor pulled out of proceedings pre-game because of dizziness they will be hoping he can find his old form.
After 82 frustrating minutes it was Yaya Toure who found the opener for City. A weary Villa defence could not get out to close him down, and the Ivorian placed a fantastic shot beyond Guzan.
Sergio Aguero then finished things off. Guzan again could do nothing about the bullet of a strike from the Argentine. A deserved but difficult win for City, who keep tabs on Chelsea with this result.
