On this day: Ozil 'a genius', Januzaj bags brace and Lukaku asked for exit

On the 5th October 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.

Let's cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 5th October 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 5th October 2013…

Ozil a genius

Today saw Mesut Ozil put in perhaps his worst performance yet in an Arsenal shirt but a year ago he was being tipped to take Arsenal to Premier League glory by a player they are reportedly looking to sign in January.

Sami Khedira, a former team-mate at Real Madrid and international mate, was tipping Ozil for great things at Arsenal in the 2013-14 season:

"Arsenal had a strong team anyway, but Mesut makes them the best team in England. I am sure he can be the player that makes things happen for them and win them the championship. Mesut is a genius on the field, there is no other way to describe him."

He would certainly not be described as a genius today. He was abject against Chelsea in their 2-0 defeat and perhaps the apparently imminent arrival of his best friend will give him the kick into gear he needs.

Here's Janny

Adnan Januzaj announced himself to the world a year ago today by saving the day against Sunderland.

The Belgian teen had already been heralded by David Moyes as a star of the future. But this was the moment he truly came to the fore.

His two goals earned United a 2-1 win at The Stadium of Light in a remarkable performance.

He is currently struggling for first-team football at Old Trafford, but he is undoubtedly a star of the future.

It was me!

Romelu Lukaku revealed he asked Chelsea for a loan deal last summer.

The Belgian made the decision after the club signed Samuel Eto'o - leaving his first-team opportunities slim once again.

Jose Mourinho obliged and he went on to be a star for the club, signing permanently on a club record deal this summer.
