Liverpool are keen on signing Loris Karius.

Liverpool are keen on signing German goalkeeper Loris Karius, but he may not accept their offer.

Karius currently plays for Bundesliga side Mainz, who are facing up to losing the 21-year-old at the end of the season.

The Sun on Sunday's Alan Nixon reported: "Kop spies are watching Karius at Mainz and contact has been made about signing him at the end of his contract."

There is a catch however, as the prospect wants to sign for a club where he is going to get playing time.

Karius was a member of Manchester City's academy, but left two seasons ago as his chances of playing time were slim.

He is a German under-20 international, who began his footballing career with Stuttgart.

A lot may depend, from Liverpool's perspective on how Simon Mignolet progresses this season, his second at the club - with the Belgian recently criticised by former defender Jamie Carragher.
