The Daily Mail report that Jose Mourinho flew to Spain to convince Cesc Fabregas to sign for the club and that was enough to persuade the 27-year-old to join Stamford Bridge.
Fabregas joined Chelsea in a £27 million transfer from Barcelona in the previous transfer window and it was Mourinho's actions which made him choose the Blues.
The Portuguese boss flew over to Spain to speak to Fabregas after Barca's final La Liga game of the season and the gesture impressed the former Arsenal star so much that it put any doubts in his mind at rest.
By this time Fabregas had been told that he was free to leave the Nou Camp and his craving to be cherished by a football club again was enough to tempt him to Chelsea.
He is unlikely to have any regrets about his move now, either, as he has become the main-man in Mourinho's side who look favourites to win the title this season.
The Blues have swept all before them so far this campaign, maintaining unbeaten in all competitions since the start of it and they already have established a five point lead at the top of the table.
Fabregas' form has been key to this, as he has created six assist for his teammates already.
Fellow summer signing, Diego Costa, has profited the most from the Spaniard's creativity, as he has racked up eight goals to his total over the opening course of the season.
It means that Chelsea now have a cutting edge to add to their solid defence and they look the complete squad.
Catching them is going to be very difficult for any side in the country and the Blues will be looking to make a further statement of intent this weekend when they take on Arsenal.
