Pierre-Michel Lasogga under fire in Germany.
Newcastle's summer signings have struggled to make an impact this season, but they could have dodged a bullet on Pierre-Michel Lasogga.
SkySports reported in May that Newcastle were planning to turn to the Bundesliga striker, who scored 12 goals last season.
No deal materialised, and instead the striker has continued in Germany with Hamburg, but not with success.
Hamburg are rock bottom of the Bundesliga with no wins, and Lasogga is seven games in - without a goal.
His poor form has seen him come under an astonishing attack from former Hamburg goalkeeper Uli Stein.
He told German newspaper BILD: "He can not play football, he is not a good footballer.
"In the penalty area he might be good but then of course I also need the team playing accordingly for this center forward."
The only piece of good news to arrive for Lasogga this week, is the return of captain Rafael van der Vaart from injury, who missed the entire September.
His creativity should spark the attack, and provide chances for Lasogga to show Stein why he is wrong.
If he cannot cut it however, it will reinforce the view that Newcastle did well not to get involved further than their tentative interest regarding his services.
