Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has been speaking about what the Reds need to do to get back to winning ways.
Brendan Rodgers’ side face West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon having taken just seven points from their opening six league matches. But the Spanish left-back feels there is a way his side can get back to their form from last season.
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Enrique said, “Last year, when any team came to Anfield, you could see from the start they were already scared before the kicked a ball. We pressed high and we pressed together and we have to try to do that again.
“We scored so many goals last season in the first 20 minutes and that’s what we must get back to.”
There is no doubt Liverpool have missed the twin-threat of the departed Luis Suarez and the injured Daniel Sturridge, with summer signings Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert failing to hit the heights thus far.
But after a disappointing start to their Champions League campaign, it is time for Liverpool to get back to what they do best, and Enrique has hit the nail on the head.
The Reds have the players to punish sides early, to score before the opposition has time to settle. So why not start that this afternoon, against a West Brom side who have been resurgent in recent weeks and will eye another scalp if Liverpool do not play to their full potential?
