Leeds United started the Darko Milanic era with a 2-0 defeat at Brentford last weekend before his first game in charge at Elland Road ended in a 0-0 draw with Reading, and the Slovenian was in front of the home crowd again this afternoon as they faced Sheffield Wednesday in a Yorkshire derby.
After a goalless first half, Leeds fans could have been forgiven for wondering when they would finally score their first goal under their new manager, and their mood won't have been improved after Chris Maguire gave Stuart Gray's Wednesday side the lead early in the second half.
But Leeds did get their first goal under Milanic as Giuseppe Bellusci turned home Alex Mowatt's free kick after Wednesday struggled to clear the ball, and with only ten minutes remaining, there were no more goals as Leeds picked up their second point under Milanic.
Yet fans were still confused over one thing; the absence of Brazilian playmaker Adryan. The 20-year-old joined the club on loan from Flamengo this summer, and whilst he had starred for Brazil Under-17's and Under-20's, Adryan has yet to even feature for the club.
With a big reputation in South America for his technical ability, Leeds fans have been desperate to see their new No. 9 in action - and despite speculation that he would make his debut today, he was left kicking his heels on the bench once again, with Milanic preferring to bring on Luke Murphy and Steve Morison instead, though he did confirm that he considered bringing Adryan on.
Milanic said he thought about using Adryan at half-time but decided that Mowatt (who he said was excellent) would be better at no 10.— Phil Hay (@PhilHayYEP) October 4, 2014
Leeds fans on Twitter were perplexed as to why Adryan remains on the sidelines, with some even comparing him to former Leeds flop Filipe Da Costa. There's even a growing opinion that if Leeds have no intention of using Adryan, then they should send him back to Brazil and enable him to continue his career elsewhere.
Here are a selection of tweets from Leeds fans on Adryan's absence against Sheffield Wednesday.
#lufc With the Adryan thing - why keep picking him in the 18 & not use him? Surely a better option than Murphy who must be gr8 in training!— Kevin-Editor Of...©™ (@LeedsUnited_MAD) October 4, 2014
Is Adryan another Da Costa? Never seen him play but when Morison comes on before him I'm starting to not believe the hype tbh. #lufc— Wayne Richardson (@wayne_leedsfan) October 4, 2014
2 more point dropped at home against inferior opposition. Still no Adryan! Darko preferred Murphy instead. Not impressed... #lufc— SirhcPot (@ChrisJVV123) October 4, 2014
What even was the point of putting adryan on the bench, the kids been brought over here for us to simply freeze his career prospects #lufc— Daniel Robinson (@DRobinson92) October 4, 2014
So Milanic 'thought about' bringing Adryan on but decided Morison was a better option... I assume he's drunk? #lufc— Em Reynard (@Emilyyyy23) October 4, 2014
The most we've seen of adryan is seeing him warm up and heading back to the dug out #lufc— LeedsUnitedSingapore (@LeedsUnitedSg) October 4, 2014
That game cried out for Adryan more than any other so far. It's a shame really #lufc— Rhys Baird (@RhysTBB) October 4, 2014
Maybe we didn't need Adryan today, maybe we did. But why warm him up, or even put him on the squad, if he's never going to play!?!? #lufc— CoUrTnEy_LUFC (@llCourtneyll) October 4, 2014
Have we actually signed Adryan or is he just a tourist? #lufc— James Furlong (@Furlong_95) October 4, 2014
