The Yorkshire derby between Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road on Saturday ended in a 1-1 draw.
Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday played out a 1-1 draw in the Yorkshire derby at Elland Road on Saturday.
Both sides had chances in the opening minutes of the Championship encounter, with Alex Mowatt coming close for the hosts and Atdhe Nuhiu heading just wide for Wednesday.
Nuhiu had another chance soon after, before Souleymane Doukara tried his luck from close range but in vain.
The first half eventually ended goalless, but six minutes into the second half Wednesday took the lead when Chris Maguire slammed home with a right-footed effort from outside the box. Mirco Antenucci could have equalised almost immediately had his long-range effort not been saved.
Leeds did not give up as the Yorkshire derby picked up intensity as the second half progresses. Darko Milanic’s side got the equaliser in the 79th minute through Giuseppe Bellusci, who slotted the ball home from close range.
Leeds pressed on for a late winner, but had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
