Manchester United are interested in signing Newport County's Regan Poole, who has been identified by club scouts as someone who could fit in well at Old Trafford in the future.
The 16-year-old has just two appearances to his name so far during his burgeoning career, but he has clearly done enough to convince the United hierarchy that he might be worth a punt.
Poole spent a week on trial at Old Trafford this month and clearly did enough to impress the coaching staff at Old Trafford.
He is a centre-back, who is considered to be physically robust as well as technically gifted and according to Sky Sports, United may well make a bid in the near future.
Newport will be loathed to lose their key star, but they will also realise that it will be impossible to fend off interest from the top tier in their prized youngster.
Indeed, Newport boss Justin Edinburgh admits that he expects Poole to have offers for his services because he is such a talent.
“There will be a lot of interest in a player of his quality,” the County manager said.
“We have to manage him right. I hope to keep him for the near future.”
United have struggled at the back this season and although Poole may not be an instant solution they obviously feel he can offer them quality in defensive areas in the future.
The Red Devils' current side is filled with attacking quality, but it looks imbalanced and defensive additions are certainly needed.
United fans may not be too excited by the arrival of a League Two defender just yet, but the hope is that he can develop into a first-team star of the future.
Fulham, of the Championship, are also thought to be interested in Poole.
