Liverpool will look to recover from a poor run of form when Alan Irvine brings his West Bromwich Albion side to Anfield this afternoon.
The Reds lost yet again on Wednesday night, falling to a 1-0 defeat in Switzerland against Basel in the Champions League. That result followed a 1-1 draw with Everton, scraping through the Capital One Cup on penalties against Middlesbrough and losing 3-1 to West Ham United in the Premier League.
Brendan Rodgers spent heavily this summer in order to try to improve his squad which finished second last season, but has so far seen his side struggle to gel - particularly in the case of Mario Balotelli replacing Luis Suarez, with the Italian failing to score in the Premier League so far.
Meanwhile, West Brom are currently in a good run of form, with manager Irvine returning to Merseyside for the first time since leaving Everton for the Hawthorns this summer. Irvine had struggled in the first four games of the season, but watched his side produce a shock 1-0 win at Tottenham two weeks ago which seems to have been the catalyst for the Baggies.
A 3-2 win over Hull City in the Capital One Cup and a 4-0 thumping of Burnley in the Premier League means that Irvine's men are brimming with confidence, and the Baggies will feel that they could pile on the misery for the Reds this afternoon - especially having stunned Spurs recently.
