Hugo Lloris has earned the praise of two of his Tottenham Hotspur teammates for the performance which he put in against Besiktas in the Europa League last night.
Spurs drew 1-1 with the Turkish side at White Hart Lane yesterday evening, but without their goalkeeper's heroics they could have been on the end of a punishing defeat.
Lloris pulled off a string of excellent saves to thwart the Besiktas attackers, which included former Chelsea and Newcastle United striker Demba Ba, and his performance has not gone unnoticed by his fellow players.
Harry Kane scored Tottenham's solitary goal in the match, but he was quick to give credit back to the French international goalkeeper for the role he played.
“They created a few chances but Hugo is a top goalkeeper and pulled off some world-class saves," he said to the club's official website.
Similarly, Ben Davies, who was part of the Spurs defence who were tested heavily, praised the custodian who ensured that Tottenham's qualification from the group still looks a strong possibility.
“Hugo was superb for us,” he explained. “It’s the kind of thing we expect from Hugo with the quality he’s got but we really could have helped him out in some situations by not letting them get that far.
“He kept us in the lead at one point and we probably should have done the business to extend that and kill the game off better than we did."
Lloris has been the star in a Tottenham squad who have failed to live up to expectations so far this season. The shot-stopper is one of the best in his position in the world and his reputation will continue to increase further with more displays like this.
It is up to his teammates now to start doing the business at the other end of the pitch and Spurs will be hoping to return to winning ways on Sunday when they take on Southampton.
The Lilywhites went the whole of September without picking up a league victory but, following the start of a new month, they will be hoping to start building momentum for a push towards the top four.
