Merson wins more Arsenal fans: Spurs just aren't good, Saints to win!

Paul Merson looked ahead to Tottenham Hotspur's home game against Southampton and anticipates a 3-1 victory for the away side.

A win for Tottenham Hotspur is a mandatory requirement this weekend.

Spurs need to bank maximum points so that they can kick-start their domestic campaign, however, Lilywhite manager Mauricio Pochettino takes on his former club Southampton and, for Sky Sports analyst Paul Merson, it will not be a happy reunion as the former Arsenal star predicts a 3-1 triumph for the Saints.

"I’m going for an away win here, simply because I don’t think Tottenham are that good," he said in a Sky Sports statement that will surely delight fans of his old club; Arsenal.

"In their last home game they had one shot at home to West Brom and that isn’t good enough. They did okay in the North London derby and while it wasn’t a free swing it was a game where there wasn’t much pressure on them to win.

"The pressure will be on them to break down a very decent Southampton side and I think they [Saints] will pick them off."

Tottenham could have been taking a confidence-boosting victory as momentum into Sunday's showdown, but a late Demba Ba penalty saw Besiktas snatch an unlikely result and so Spurs instead carry the baggage of an energy-sapping draw.

One key statistic that the home fans may take solace from, though, is that since Southampton's return to the Premier League the South Coast club have played Tottenham four times but lost every single one.
