Manchester United legend Paul Scholes speaks highly of Manchester City star James Milner

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes seems to hold Manchester City star James Milner in high regard.

James Milner is not a regular for Manchester City, but Manchester United legend Paul Scholes still admires him.

England international Milner has been at the Etihad Stadium since 2010 and has played his part in their Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup triumphs, but he has often gone unnoticed.

Over the years City have signed some big-name players such as Yaya Toure, Sergio Aguero and David Silva, and the 28-year-old has slipped under the radar.

The former Aston Villa man was linked with a move away from the Manchester outfit in the summer, but he eventually stayed and has been used from time to time in the Premier League by Citizens manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Milner featured in City’s 1-1 draw with AS Roma at the Etihad in the Champions League in midweek, and Scholes seemed impressed with his performance.

‘When I was still playing it seemed that when City came to Old Trafford, Milner would play’, he wrote in The Independent. ‘Mancini knew what he would get from him.

‘Sometimes I think Milner suffers because he does not have a big European reputation and that means he gets left out. But he can defend and get forward’.

Milner is one of those players who do not have the ‘star’ quality but is still useful. Although the former Leeds United man does not possess the calibre of some of his fellow midfielders, he is someone who is always reliable and is able to put in a good shift whenever he is called upon.
