Five things learned from Tottenham's draw with Besiktas: Kane, Sherwood & Ba feature

Five lessons from Spurs' 1-1 draw in the Europa League...

Sherwood thinks Spurs should have got Welbeck or Ba

After last night's draw with Besiktas at White Hart Lane, former Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood made an intriguing comment.

Indeed, the 45-year-old told ITV Sport that Spurs should have signed either Demba Ba or Danny Welbeck this summer.

Spurs do lack a prolific goalscorer and both strikers are doing well at their new clubs. It seems the ever-divisive Sherwood has provoked some thought once again.

Ba likes scoring against Tottenham...

If Tottenham did sign Besiktas forward Ba, it would have at least been one way of stopping the Senegalese forward from scoring against them.

The 29-year-old has now scored five goals in his last five games against the north London side and there will be a repeat in Turkey if Spurs defend like they did yesterday.

Chiriches needs major improvement

Ba's goal came from the penalty spot at White Hart Lane and Vlad Chiriches was the culprit who gave it away.

The Romanian defender made a terrible error before handling the ball inside the penalty area and was generally poor on the night. Chiriches needs major improvement after his worrying decline in form.

Hugo Lloris deserves better.

Kane is the man for the Europa League

It was a good night, however, for Harry Kane, who scored once again in the Europa League. The striker clearly loves the competition and his goal was full of class, as he took a great touch and stride before firing a low effort into the far corner from distance.

The question now is whether Kane can reproduce this kind of form in the Premier League.

Consistency needed?

Usually, managers are blamed for not resting or rotating players enough when it comes to the Europa League. But Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is, conversely, perhaps changing too much.

The Argentine made 10 changes ahead of the Besiktas clash but Tottenham are neither playing well in Europe nor in the Premier League. Maybe some more consistent team selections will benefit his players, even if it risks a bit more fatigue.
