Aston Villa star issues warning to Manchester City

Aston Villa's Andreas Weimann fully believes his side can cause an upset over Manchester City in the weekend's home clash.

Ahead of Saturday’s Premier clash, Aston Villa striker Andrea Weimann has warned Manchester City that confidence in Paul Lambert’s squad couldn’t be higher.

Villa sit in sixth-place in the table having taken 10 points from their opening six games, although the gloss has been taken off their hot start somewhat after successive 3-0 defeats to Arsenal and Chelsea.

Nevertheless, Weimann insists that those recent setbacks haven’t fazed the team, and is hoping for a similar outcome on the weekend to last season’s corresponding fixture, when the Austrian international netted the decisive goal in a remarkable 3-2 win at Villa Park.

‘That win last season at Villa Park was a fantastic moment in the season,’ he told the club’s official website.

‘We were clinical on the day, we took our chances and we were rewarded with a great win.

‘It was one of the highlights of the season for us, a fantastic result - and one of my best moments when I scored in front of the Holte End and celebrated with the fans and my team-mates.

‘We feel very confident of a result having made the strong start that we have. Our mood is good, the belief is strong,’ he added.

‘The start we've made has helped with confidence but there was always a strong feeling within the team that we could strive to make this season a good, positive step in the right direction.

‘We're looking forward to the game against Man City. Our confidence remains high despite the defeats against Arsenal and Chelsea.

‘They're top teams and we know we just have to continue to work hard. There's a good bond within the group, we all know what we're doing and we work on that every day in training.

‘We know we will face another very tough game against Manchester City.

‘They're the Premier League champions and they'll be looking to retain their title, with the other teams we have played in this difficult group of games pushing them all the way.

‘But we showed last season at Villa Park that on any given day you can get a good result if you play really well and you take your opportunities. That's what we will try to do again in this game.’
