Liverpool have made a truly disappointing start to the 2014-15 season, and are struggling both in the Premier League and the Champions League.
£16 million summer signing Mario Balotelli has widely been depicted as the epitome as the Reds’ problems so far this term, his failure to score or even attempt to score highlighted by one and all (click here to read more).
However, according to Arsenal legend Martin Keown, there is another Liverpool player who has been disappointing: defender Dejan Lovren.
‘It’s worrying that some of the new signings that have come in have not worked’, the former England international told the Daily Mail. ‘I’ve been particularly disappointed by Dejan Lovren, who there were high hopes for.
'I look at the Liverpool defence and I don’t know who the leader is in the back four, but it’s up to Liverpool to recover and respond as a team’.
Lovren was one of Southampton’s best players in the Premier League last season and cost Liverpool a reported £20 million in the summer transfer window.
The Croatia international centre-back was signed precisely to prevent Liverpool from conceding as many goals as they did last season, but so far he has failed to justify that price-tag.

As the above stats show, Lovren has done his bit in helping Liverpool at the back and has not made any error that has directly led to a goal.
However, it cannot be denied that Brendan Rodgers’s side are struggling defensively just as they did last season. How the manager solves it this time remains to be seen.
