This is why 'weird' Everton will lose to Manchester United - Paul Merson

Sky Sports analyst tips Manchester United to collect a much-needed victory ahead of the international break.

Unencumbered by midweek European games, Manchester United could win decisively against Everton when the two teams meet at Old Trafford on Sunday, October 5 as it is the Toffees, instead, who must recover from a grueling away trip to the far reaches of the continent.

Everton took on Krasnodar in the Europa League on Thursday evening and left Russia with a slog of a point after Samuel Eto'o spared Roberto Martinez's blushes in the 82nd minute.

For Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson, though, the Toffees this season have not played as well as we have come to expect a Martinez team. In his own words: "They've been a bit weird."

He said: "I watched Everton against West Brom the other week and I thought they’d turned the corner because they won well and they also had a good 4-0 win over Wolfsburg in Europe, but they haven’t really been the Everton we know this season.

"I think they’ll lose this because it’s an early kick-off and they were in Russia on Thursday night. They put a decent team out (which I understand because winning the Europa League is the best way for them to get into the Champions League) and it’s a lot of travelling, so I’ve got to go for Man United."

Merson tips United - who have not competed since their 2-1 edging of West Ham United last week - to triumph by a 3-0 score.
