Spurs fans react to Andros Townsend's England call-up on Twitter

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been left confused by Andros Towsend's call-up to England today.

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been left baffled by Roy Hodgson's decision to call up Andros Townsend to the England squad.

Townsend has been out of form at White Hart Lane since the start of the season and is not even part of Mauricio Pochettino's regular starting line-up, yet he was given international recognition today.

It is a move that has left Spurs fans bemused and many of them have question the winger's call-up today.

Townsend has failed to impress and he appears to have lost a yard of pace since picking up an injury towards the back of the last campaign.

The 23-year-old can be a match winner on his day, but his performances have been consistently poor in recent times and an England call-up seems odd given there were other candidates.

The likes of Swansea City's Wayne Routledge and even West Ham United's Stewart Downing have been in better form that Townsend, but Hodgson has decided to keep his faith in the Spurs youngster.

Townsend, of course, has proven that he can make an impression on the international stage, but being rewarded for his more recent displays appears unmerited.

The call-up could do his confidence good, though, especially as it presents him with a chance to get back on track against some lower quality opposition.

England's next two fixtures are against Estonia and San Marino and Townsend will be determined to get on the scoresheet if he does play a part in the games.

Here is some of the best Tottenham supporters to Townsend's call-up on Twitter.
