Former Leeds United player Peter Lorimer has suggested why Adryan isn't in the first team.
Former Leeds United midfielder Peter Lorimer has given his assessment in why Brazilian star Adryan hasn’t featured more with the first team following his move to Elland Road in the summer.
Adryan has impressed in recent games for the under-21 side, which put new Leeds boss Darko Milanic under instant pressure to get him into the first team for games against Brentford and Reading.
The fact both of those games have ended with Milanic still searching for his first win will create confusion and anger as to why Adryan isn’t featuring when he has exciting potential and the ability to change games.
“Football in Brazil has an established philosophy and a certain reputation but there’s a danger in assuming that any Brazilian youngster is going to be dynamite,” wrote Lorimer for the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“Adryan might be exactly that - It probably didn’t help him that he joined Leeds in a period when the team were putting together a pretty decent run of results.”
Adryan got his teeth into the start of his Leeds career when Neil Redfearn was in charge and the side was playing attractive and successful football with no need for tweaks to be made.
“You don’t break up a winning side for the sake of forcing someone into it and if we’d struggled against Bournemouth or Huddersfield then it wouldn’t have surprised me if Neil Redfearn had turned to Adryan.”
The pressure is certainly now building over Milanic to include the exciting Brazilian because the results and performances have dipped slightly.
Lorimer suggests that one of the most obvious reasons Adryan isn’t in the side is because he isn’t match fit and hasn’t had a great deal of competitive action to improve his fitness.
“From what I can gather, the club think he needs a decent run of training and Under-21 games to get him fully up to speed.”
Adryan will have his say this season and he could turn out to be one of the best signings the club has made in recent times but until he’s fully fit Milanic will work with the rest of the squad as he searches for an elusive first win.
