Liverpool’s disappointing start to the 2014-15 campaign continued on Wednesday as they suffered a 1-0 away defeat to FC Basel in the Champions League.

Marco Streller’s goal in the 52nd minute proved to be the difference between the two sides at St. Jakob-Park in the Group B clash.

Brendan Rodgers’s team's performance was largely disappointing as they suffered an upset against the Swiss side.

Raheem Sterling and Mario Balotelli both had goals ruled out for offside, but that did not mask the lack of creativity and invention from Liverpool.

The result means that Liverpool are now third in Group B with three points from two matches, level on points with Basel, who are second.

Spanish giants and 2014 Champions League winners Real Madrid are third in the group with six points, while Bulgarian champions Ludogorets Razgrad are at the bottom with no point.
