While Liverpool were facing Basel on the field, Inter were attempting to steal a march on Arsenal in the directors' box at St. Jakob Park last night.
Inter sent representatives to Switzerland for two purposes: to watch Fabio Borini should he get on the field and to try and discuss talented stopper Fabian Schar with Basel directors.
Borini didn't feature, so Inter were able to dedicate their attentions to Schar, who turned in another authoritative performance in Basel's 1-0 win.
Reports from Italy suggest that Inter are trying to progress with talks between their transfer guru Piero Ausilio and his Basel counterpart over a possible transfer.
The two sides chatted during and after the game and this may have allowed Inter to gain useful ground in the battle for Schar's signature.
However, Inter may struggle if they are drawn into a bidding war with Arsenal because their spending power pales in comparison to the Gunners.
