Arsenal are celebrating today after they dealt out a thrashing to Galatasaray in the Champions League last night. Arsenal won the game 4-1 courtesy of a hat-trick from summer signing Danny Welbeck and a solitary strike from fellow newbie Alexis Sanchez.
Arsenal conceded a consolation on the hour mark from the penalty spot, after Wojciech Szczesny was sent off for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.
The performance of Welbeck was the biggest positive from the game, with his pace tearing the Turkish defence apart.
Wenger has praised him as 'electric' while many compared his performance to similar European nights from club legend Thierry Henry.
There was one area for concern, other than the red-card for goalkeeper Szczesny.
Alexis Sanchez was on the receiving end of some rather nasty challenges from the Gala players, including one from Brazilian Felipe Melo which should have been a red-card.
He was spotted with ice around his foot after being subbed out of the game, but Arsene Wenger did not seem to hint at him being unavailable for the game with Chelsea this weekend:
"It could have been a red. I’ll have to see it again. It looked from where I was that it was a red. I took Alexis off to be a bit more solid defensively once we were down to 10 men. Unfortunately, in my life I haven’t met many players who are happy to come off. He looks alright."
Unfortunately for Szczesny however his red card means his is out of the club's next Champions League tie against Anderlecht. In the past competition for his gloves has not been present. However summer signing David Ospina came on and performed well, keeping out several attempts at goal.
And Wenger had high praise for the Colombian, who will now be hoping to become the club's recognised number one:
"What I would like to say is that David Ospina came on and played very well. When he came on we were suffering and he had a good performance and played very well."
