There can be no doubting the star of the show last night as Arsenal strolled to three points in the Champions League, beating Galatasaray 4-1 at the Emirates.
Danny Welbeck bagged a hat-trick, causing fans to purr over his £16 million arrival from Manchester United in the summer as the England forward showed great touch and finishing class in his best performance for the Gunners yet.
Instant comparisons with the technique and finishing ability of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry have been created, but it’s important not to get carried away ahead of further, much tougher tests.
It was important for Arsenal to bounce back after they lost their first Champions League game this season 2-0 at the hands of Borussia Dortmund.
The same lethargic attitude wasn’t evident last night against the Turkish team as Arsenal’s performance quickly caused the travelling fans to grow frustrated throwing flares and other objects onto the pitch during the game.
“My last hat-trick was probably for Manchester United reserves. The manager has shown a lot of faith in me and I’m delighted to repay him tonight. He has given me a chance to play football up front, in my preferred position and I’m going to do everything I can to make sure he is happy,” said Welbeck.
The focus for Welbeck now moves to this weekend’s game against Chelsea before he heads off with the England side for the next international break, which will be an important two weeks as he looks to maintain his momentum and confidence.
The Blues are a side that have managed to keep Welbeck quiet in the past and Jose Mourinho will now doubt have a system designed to stop him from hurting Chelsea during the game at Stamford Bridge.
Here’s what Arsenal fans made of Welbeck’s performance on Twitter.

If Welbeck can sort out his touch on the ball (it isn't that bad but needs fine tuning) then he can be HUGE.— The Friday Nighter (@GunnerVos) October 2, 2014
I just get the feeling Welbeck is going to score 20+ goals this season, and LVG could rue selling him.— David Milburn (@dnm_thegoose) October 2, 2014
