Arsenal and United fans trade blows on Twitter over Welbeck-Henry comparison

Ex-Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck has created comparisons with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry following his hat-trick against Galatasaray.

Danny Welbeck’s performance for Arsenal last night created comparisons between the England forward and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

It took Henry four years to score his first hat-trick in Arsenal colours but it’s taken Welbeck only a handful of games following his £16 million move from Manchester United.

Arsenal fans were left purring over Welbeck following his heroics against Galatasaray, with BBC Radio’s 5Live asking fans whether they thought a comparison between Welbeck and the Frenchman was accurate.

Unsurprisingly several rival fans laughed off the comparison between Welbeck and one of the Premier League’s best ever players, suggesting that he can’t be judged based on one appearance against an average European team.

There are similarities between the two of them.

Welbeck’s speed is frightening and pace was always one of Henry’s key assets during his time at the club.

Welbeck’s finishing last night also created comparisons with Henry who was able to keep his composure in a variety of situations to poke the ball home even after he’d lost his balance.

Henry won major pieces of silverware and while Welbeck has medals from his time at Manchester United, the defining factor as to whether he can push on and be classed in the same bracket as Henry will depend on his success at the Emirates.

Arsenal have won a single FA Cup since 2005 and if Welbeck can fire the side to domestic or European glory, he’ll be on the same road that Henry was travelling along back in the early 2000s.
