September was a crucial month for teams all over the Premier League as Chelsea held their lead at the top of the table while Newcastle United battled away at the other end of the division.
There were some great individual performances over the course of the month and we’ve named our team of the month based on the action.
GK – Wojciech Szczesny (Arsenal)
The Pole made 12 key saves during September and is one of the first names down in the Arsenal team sheet each week.
RB – Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea)
The Spaniard takes his natural position in our team of the month although he’s been playing down the left hand side for the Blues.
CB – Curtis Davies (Hull City)
Davies was a key figure throughout the month in Hull’s defence, featuring highly in terms of interceptions, aerial duels and clearances made.
CB – Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal)
The French defender made more interceptions than any other player last month, as he read the game superbly.
LB – Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur)
Rose’s form for Spurs this season has been superb. He’s pushing for a regular England place and keeping Ben Davies out of the team.
RM – Angel Di Maria (Manchester United)
Di Maria had an instant impact after signing from Real Madrid. He scored two goals and produced two assists.
CM – Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea)
Fabregas played more accurate passes last month than any other midfielder. He’s in great form and looks as though he’s never been out of the side.
CM – Jordan Henderson (Liverpool)
Every team could use a player as effective as Jordan Henderson in the middle. He also featured highly in terms of accurate passing stats.
LM – Stewart Downing (West Ham United)
Downing makes it into the team because he had more Premier League assists than any other midfielder in September.
ST – Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)
Rooney produced two assists, more passes than other strikers and the highest number of touches on the ball than other strikers.
ST – Diego Costa (Chelsea)
Four goals means that Costa has maintained a brilliant start to the season.
