Arsenal failed in the opening group game of this season's Champions League, falling to a 2-0 defeat against Borussia Dortmund after a dreadful display at Signal Iduna Park. A response was needed, and that's exactly what they got against Galatasaray.
New signings Danny Welbeck and Alexis Sanchez bagged the goals, with Welbeck notching a stunning hat-trick on his home Champions League debut for the Gunners, whilst Sanchez grabbed the third goal of the evening in another impressive outing for the Chilean.
Despite Sanchez's contribution, there can be no doubting who the star of the show was. Welbeck's three goals marked his first ever Champions League hat-trick, as Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger continues to reap the rewards from playing the former Manchester United man as a centre forward.
"He had a great performance," said Wenger. "I think he added that instinct of a goal-scorer, was more aggressive, made great runs and finished well."
"I think he has such good pace that it gives him time to finish in a calm way. Once a player understands that, their finishing improves a lot."
