With no Champions League football this midweek, the Manchester United players have quite some time on their hands.
Of course, they have been training and preparing for their Premier League clash against Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday, but they cannot train all the time, can they?
It seems that midfielder Daley Blind has been using some of his spare time to reply to the fan mail that he has been receiving since he joined United from Ajax on deadline day for a transfer fee of £14 million.
Blind is not exactly a glamorous player and is not a ‘Galactico’ (maybe a ‘Gaalactico’), but he has proved to be an important player in manager Louis van Gaal’s system so far.
It is indeed heartening to find the United fans appreciate Blind’s role in the team, and it is equally heart-warming to see that the midfielder responds to them.
Possessing the versatility to play in defence and midfield, Blind has been deployed in defensive midfield by Van Gaal so far and is likely to play in that position for the rest of the season.
The Netherlands international enjoyed a breakthrough 2013-14 campaign for Ajax and was impressive for the Oranje at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil in the summer.
There have been doubts on Blind’s lack of pace and his ability to impose himself on matches, but the 24-year-old is a cultured defensive midfielder who reads the game well and sniffs out danger.
