Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck scored a sensational hat-trick against Galatasaray in the Champions League on Wednesday.
It was the England international’s first senior hat-trick of his career and helped the Gunners ease to a 4-1 win in Group D.
The 23-year-old opened the scoring at the Emirates Stadium in 22nd minute, added a second eight minutes later and completed his hat-trick on 52 minutes.
It was Welbeck’s best performance for Arsenal since joining the Gunners from Manchester United on transfer deadline day for a reported fee of £16 million.
It is a custom for the scorer of a hat-trick to take home the matchball, but the Englishman was so excited and happy that he initially forgot to do that.
‘I forgot it, didn’t I?’ he told Sky Sports when asked about where the matchball was during an interview immediately after the match. ‘I will get it after’.
It was Welbeck’s first senior hat-trick so it is understandable why he forgot to collect the matchball immediately after the final whistle. But one can be certain that next time he will not.
