West Ham striker Carlton Cole is cursing his luck he came up against a sharp defender in Paddy McNair at the weekend.
The Manchester United debutant impressed for Louis van Gaal's side, helping them defend a 2-1 lead with 10 men.
Cole believes had it not been for McNair, he would have scored a crucial goal at Old Trafford.
He told West Ham's website: "We were knocking at the door. I scored up there last year and would loved to have scored again this year but it didn't work out that way.
"McNair took one off my foot when Jenkinson put a great ball in for me to score, but he made a great clearance. I thought that was my little bit of glory there, but McNair did well being a young boy.
"He was under immense pressure, at least for the last half-an-hour, 40 minutes. They didn't crack and the result didn't go our way in the end."
To see an experienced professional like Cole praise McNair, indicates how well the 19-year-old did on his debut.
An unheard of to few outside Old Trafford last week, he has thrown himself into the reckoning for further first team chances and shown the club do have better strength in depth than first thought.
