Liverpool targeted star frozen out at Lazio, January move on cards?

SS Lazio fans

Liverpool may have failed to sign Lazio forward Keita Baldé Diao in the summer window, but the Spaniard may well be more receptive in January.

Lazio star Keita Baldé Diao's agent claimed a few weeks ago that Liverpool made a failed attempt to sign his client in the transfer window, but the player is less than settled in Rome.

The 19-year-old is an exciting talent having been brought up through the Barcelona youth system before joining Lazio in 2011.

Last season saw Keita establish himself in the Lazio first team on a regular basis and his estimated value rocketed to around £20 million, according to some sources.

As well as Liverpool, Real Madrid were linked with a bid in the summer, but Keita stayed put as no side met Lazio's valuation.

However, Keita hasn't been able to get into the starting 11 at Lazio this season and his representative is fuming.

"We are having a bit of a think and trying to work out why he is being left out," Ulisse Savini said on Radiosei 98.100.

"He is a positive lad who always assesses his own performance and tries his hardest to please the coach.

"Discussions with Lazio about Keita have always been very open. His contract renewal was in line with the club's parameters or the player's expectations. We chose not to listen to other clubs trying to lure him away, but we didn't do that so he could sit on the bench."

It seems that Keita may be available in January and if he remains peripheral Lazio may accept a much lower offer.
