Ipswich fans react on Twitter to Jonny Williams' performance against Sheffield Wednesday

Ipswich Town fans took to Twitter following Tuesday evening's 1-1 draw away to Sheffield Wednesday to have their say on Jonny Williams' goalscoring return.

Returning loanee Jonny Williams extended Ipswich Town’s unbeaten run to six matches in the Championship with a second-half equaliser in Tuesday evening’s 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who re-joined the club on a 93-day loan from Crystal Palace on Monday, scored within seven minutes of coming off the bench when his 62nd-minute shot off the post cancelled out Atdhe Nuhiu's early header.

He was forced off with a groin injury three minutes before the final whistle, however, but manager Mick McCarthy was quick to play down any fears, while also moving to praise the Wales international’s impact on the match.

‘Jonny’s goal was absolutely flipping brilliant. It was the equaliser and it wouldn’t have mattered had it gone in off his backside, but it was a good goal and a hard-fought, hard-earned, deserved point,’ he told the club’s official website.

‘I thought we had some nice football in the first half, we kept the ball and they were letting us, and we had a couple of good chances [just before half-time].

‘On reflection it was even on chances, they had couple in the net that were disallowed, but that’s the way it is.’

One of the bright spots of Palace’s 2012-13 promotion campaign, Williams was linked with a £10 million to Arsenal a few seasons back, but the promising academy product struggled in his top-flight debut, before eventually being sent out on loan to Ipswich in February.

He scored once in 13 games for Town the rest of the way, as McCarthy's side came close to claiming a play-off spot, and, judging by the reaction, fans are more than happy to have him back at Portman Road, if only on a temporary basis.
