Fiorentina tipped to make sensational move for ex-Chelsea striker

There are reports in Italy that Fiorentina may try and bring back volatile former Chelsea marksman Adrian Mutu in January.

Veteran Romanian striker Adrian Mutu may get a chance to return to his old stomping ground of Fiorentina, according to rumours in Italy.

Now 35, Mutu has had a career of massive ups and downs, but he has fond memories of Florence where he played between 2006 and 2011 and scored a goal every other game, 54 goals in 112 appearances.

Never far from controversy, Mutu's dramatic life off the field often made more headlines than his performances on the pitch and his time at Chelsea is remembered principally for Mutu failing a drugs test when cocaine was found in his system in September 2004.

A seven-month ban ensued and Chelsea took legal action over breach of contract before Mutu relaunched his career at Juventus before moving on to Fiorentina.

Mutu is one of many ageing stars to sign up for the inaugural Indian Super League this winter and will play for Pune FC, but that could open the door to a return to Fiorentina, who are linked to the club.

According to Radio Blu, when the Indian season ends in December, Fiorentina are considering signing Mutu up on a short-term contract.

Fiorentina may need some striking cover as they have struggled to find the net so far this season with continued injury woes for star striker Giuseppe Rossi.
