Liverpool left for Switzerland on Tuesday for their Champions League clash against FC Basel, but Daniel Sturridge did not travel with the squad.
That’s because the 25-year-old striker is still recovering from a thigh injury that he picked up while on international duty with England earlier this month.
There were suggestions that Sturridge could recover in time for Liverpool’s match against Basel at St. Jakob-Park on Wednesday, but he has failed to regain his full fitness.
Sturridge has been left back in England and he is understandably disappointed not to play his part in the Group B match in Basel.
On Tuesday evening, the former Chelsea and Manchester City striker posted the following photo on Instagram along with the message: ‘Wish I was on the plane and with the squad. I'll be back soon my people. Thanks you and I love you for all the support. All in Gods hands I'm praying hard and I hope to be back playing very soon!!’
Mario Balotelli is likely to lead the attack again for Liverpool and he will be looking to find the target. The £16 million summer signing had 10 shots against Everton in the Merseyside derby on Saturday, but he failed to score.
The Italy international started his Liverpool career with an encouraging performance, but he seems to have suffered a dip in form and is struggling for goals at the moment.
