Chelsea picked up their first win of the 2014-15 Champions League campaign on Tuesday. The Blues got the better of Sporting Lisbon 1-0 in Portugal in their second Group G game.
Nemanja Matic’s header in the 34th minute proved to be the difference between the two sides at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon.
It was not the most comfortable of wins for Jose Mourinho’s side, who did give away Sporting chances during the 90 minutes.
Sporting had 15 shots – as many as Chelsea – but only three of them were on target; the Premier League giants had seven attempts on goal. The London outfit earned 12 corners, while the hosts could get only two.
The match was also Chelsea captain John Terry 100th in the Champions League. The 33-year-old former England international became only the sixth English player to reach that milestone.
Following the win, a number of Chelsea stars took to Twitter and Instagram to revel in their win against Sporting in Lisbon.
