Belgian daily newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws has pointed out a dramatic difference between this season and last for Adnan Januzaj.
In a report where Januzaj says he’s waiting for a chance in the first team, the paper points out that he’s featuring in only 28% of matches so far this season compared to 48% of games last time round.
One of the common themes with any Louis van Gaal side has been the way he bases his teams around younger players but there are several reasons Januzaj has been unfortunate not to play more this season.
The attacking signings that came in during the summer have pushed Januzaj out of the first team squad and back into the under-21 side where he’s doing everything he can to get another chance under LvG in the senior side.
He backed up an under-21 hat-trick against Sunderland with a solid performance against Spurs recently, where he maintained his momentum with another important goal.
All he can do is play well with any game he represents Manchester United and try to force his way back into van Gaal’s reckoning.
Van Gaal has already shown that he will dip into the youth team ranks at the club for players to use in his first team and a free scoring Januzaj could well force his way into the team over the course of the season if the attacking superstars at Old Trafford aren’t performing.
Januzaj hasn’t been helped by the fact United are playing fewer games this season and are already out of the League Cup but he could get a chance in the FA Cup to step back into the side and put the boss under pressure in terms of his Premier League team.
