Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli had a largely disappointing Merseyside derby against Everton on Saturday.
The Premier League game ended in a 1-1 draw, as the Toffees scored an injury-time equaliser at Anfield.
There were a number of talking points from the derby, one of which was Balotelli’s failure to score despite having 10 shots.
Of course, it was not just the Italy international’s fault that he could not find the net against Everton. Goalkeeper Tim Howard looked good and the visitors’ defence also forced him to try his shots from difficult positions.
However, that stat will play on many Liverpool fans’ minds when Balotelli takes to the pitch against FC Basel in the Champions League in Switzerland on Wednesday.
And just when one thought that the stats could not get any worse for the former AC Milan and Inter Milan star, they have.
It has now emerged that in his last 20 Premier League games, Balotelli had 63 shots of which just one resulted in a goal.

Of course, the 20 league games include those played during his time at Manchester City before his move to AC Milan in January 2013 when his goals were key in the Rossoneri finishing in the top three of Serie A in 2012-13.
Nevertheless, Balotelli has been proven to be not so prolific (at least in the Premier League). The £16 million signing needs to work on his accuracy, and perhaps take fewer attempts on goal and pass the ball to a better-placed teammate.
Maybe Balotelli is simply not the type of striker who will score loads of goal. Maybe he is someone who will help his strike-partner score goals.
