Stoke’s win against Newcastle United last night means the latest round of Premier League action is over and it’s time to update the team of the week.
There were several impressive performances over the weekend and plenty of potential candidates to make the side.
GK – Hugo Lloris (Tottenham Hotspur)
The Frenchman was superb against Arsenal and pulled off important saves at important moments during the game.
RB – Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City)
The Argentine defender was as solid as usual in the game against Hull City. He was effective at both ends of the pitch.
CB – Younes Kaboul (Tottenham Hotspur)
The decision to name Kaboul as Tottenham’s captain created a few question but he led by example with a solid display against the Gunners.
CB – Craig Dawson (West Brom)
Dawson bagged the first goal of the game against Burnley and was also faultless defensively.
LB – Phil Jagielka (Everton)
Not a left-back but we had to fit him in somewhere. He played well against Liverpool and scored the best goal of his career to equalise.
RM – Saido Mane (Southampton)
Mane ran the show out wide against QPR. They simply couldn’t handle him and the Saints have a very special player on their books.
CM – Etienne Capoue (Tottenham Hotspur)
Capoue worked his socks off against a very talented Arsenal midfield. He made it as difficult as possible for the Gunners to move the ball around.
CM – Raheem Sterling (Liverpool)
Sterling would slot into the number ten role for our team of the week. His eagerness to take the game to Everton in a tense derby match was impressive.
LM – Willian (Chelsea)
Willian has put pressure on Jose Mourinho to keep him in the team following his performance against Aston Villa. He outshone Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard.
ST – Saido Berahino (West Brom)
Berahino was unplayable against Burnley. He’s the best attacking talent West Brom have.
ST – Edin Dzeko (Manchester City)
Dzeko produced two great finishes during the game against Hull City proving to be one of the best strikers in the Premier League on his day.
