‘The signs are not great’ - Everton manager on latest injury blow

Roberto Martinez has been speaking about the injury sustained by Everton's Kevin Mirallas.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has been speaking about the injury sustained by Kevin Mirallas in last weekend’s Merseyside derby.

The Belgian international was carried off in the first half due to a hamstring problem, and the Toffees manager has given an update in an interview with EvertonTV.

“These types of injuries, sometimes you need over 48 hours for the inflammation to go down,” the Spaniard said.

“We had a few scans and we are going to carry on today. It isn’t a straight forward diagnosis but obviously the signs are not great.

“It’s not normal when Kevin Mirallas feels something like that and has to come off in the game. We know then that it is something serious.”

Mirallas has made seven appearances for Everton already this season, scoring three goals in that time. But it appears he could now be out of action for a while, leaving Martinez with a big hole to fill in his side.

Everton are currently 15th in the Premier League table, having taken just six points from their opening six matches. They are however just four points outside the Champions League places, which shows how tight the league is at this early stage in the season.
