Once upon a time Aurelien Chedjou was linked with a move to Arsenal but he’s settled at Galatasaray and Gunners will have the chance to judge whether Arsene Wenger made the right call tomorrow night.
Chedjou is likely to start in defence for the Turkish visitors and we’ve decided to match him up against one of Arsenal’s best defenders over the last two seasons in the form of Laurent Koscielny.
Looking at the stats, the two areas which immediately jump out are effective clearances and interceptions, both of which Koscielny is more effective at based on the opening Champions League games this season.
Koscielny does the basics of no nonsense defending very well and reads the game positively, which he needs to because Arsenal play an extremely high defensive line because of their attack.
Chedjou is the more aggressive defender based on the stats from matchday one, as he made more tackles during Galatasaray’s game against Anderlecht.
However, Koscielny also got an outfield block in against Borussia Dortmund, which shows he’s playing well in terms of his position around the pitch and is effective when it comes to putting himself between attacker and goal.
In conclusion, Koscielny is a solid defender who Arsenal can rely on and Chedjou will get a much harder workout against the Gunners than he did against Anderlecht.
