English pair Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole may have enjoyed mainstay status during their illustrious tenures at former club Chelsea but, earlier this evening, at the Etihad Stadium in the second round of fixtures in the Champions League, the two competed against each other as Manchester City battled out a 1-1 draw with AS Roma.
Left back Cole started the game, while Lampard was integrated early in the second half as Edin Dzeko was substituted.
And, judging from the photographs above, it was more of a case of 'friends reunited' rather than fisticuffs at dusk.
Reliable Argentina international Sergio Aguero opened the scoring after just four minutes but Roma legend Francesco Totti equalised on the 24rd minute mark.
Cole is growing into his role at Roma and looked good in the defensive zone for his new employer as he returned to the country for the first time since transferring away from Chelsea earlier in the summer.
Lampard, meanwhile, balanced the midfield when manager Manuel Pellegrini made the sub and brought stability as the team switched formation to close the game out.
