La Liga expert Guillem Balague has criticised Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho following his comments and possible mismanagement regarding the fitness of striker Diego Costa.
The former Atletico Madrid striker has started life in the Premier League with a bang, finding the net eight times already as the Blues sit proudly at the top of the table with five wins from their first six matches.
There is little if anything to complain about in relation to Costa’s performances on the pitch, but in Spain there is cause for concern over his current fitness.
Mourinho has over the past week lamented the situation, and quite cleverly reminded the Spanish federation of his star striker’s battle against injuries ahead of the coming international break.
Spanish expert Balague, however, criticised the Blues boss’s behaviour and questioned the reality of the situation given Costa’s involvement in the 3-0 victory over Aston Villa at the weekend.
“There are several problems with what Mourinho says. Firstly, the muscle is a great unknown and a neglect of medicine. There is a lot of mystery regarding the origins of muscle injury, so it does little to blame others," he wrote in Spanish publication AS.
“Secondly, if he is recovering, why play against Aston Villa? That really makes no sense both from a medical standpoint and a sporting perspective. He is either fine and therefore plays, or he is not right and he doesn’t play.”
The Brazilian-born Costa has represented the Spanish side on five occasions since making the controversial decision to join La Roja earlier this year.
His time with the Spanish national team, however, has so far resulted in disappointment as he led the team to their worst World Cup showing in recent history.
