Chelsea’s under-19 side avoided making the same mistake as the senior team as they got their European campaign off to a winning start with a big 4-1 win over FC Schalke.
Focus for the young Blues now switches to beating Sporting Lisbon and taking an early dominant position as they look to progress to the next stage of the UEFA Youth League.
There will be a combination of under-18 and under-21 stars on show during this game and the Blues have performed well in both formats so far this season domestically.
The under-21 side is joint top of division one in the under-21 Premier League with Manchester United, who are only above Chelsea in the table because of goal difference. It’s the same case with the under-18 side who are on the same number of points as Arsenal but have conceded more goals.
